, brittany. thank you. >>> tonight the u.s. supreme court is the only chance a virginia woman has to avoid execution. virginia governor bob mcdonnell denied clemency. she is the only woman on virginia's death row. she is the first woman to be executed in nearly a century. they convicted her to carry out the 2002 murders of her husband and stepson. her execution is scheduled for next thursday. >>> we just made some calls and the capitol hill police have not yet released the name of the man killed right near the u.s. botanical gardens today. but officers say the man pointed a gun at them and when they ordered him to drop it he didn't do it so they shot him dead. no word on what sparked the whole thing. >>> and a heart-breaking accident in silver spring has left a toddler strangled to death. the 18-month-old's father found the little boy all entangled in the drapery cord inside their apartment this afternoon. a police officer rushed the father and the child in thinks police cruiser to a nearby hospital, but it was just too late. neighbors at the apartment complex are in shock. some say they h

a northern virginia man may have staged a violent incident at johns hopkins hospital in baltimore. police say that he shot a doctor, shot and killed his mother, then turned the gun on himself. >>> this morning, that doctor is recovering. now, the gunman's family says he was likely overcome with grief about his mother's conditions. fox 5's sarah simmons joins us this morning. >> good news, the doctor underwent surgery and is expected to be okay. the shooter's brother says he believes his brother is upset over his mother's surgery, because she probably wouldn't be able to walk again. police say paul warren hardic pulled a gun and shot his motor's doctor while the surgeon was updating him on the condition of his elderly mother. the bullet went right into the doctor's stomach. he barricaded himself with his mother. he killed his 84-year-old mother and then himself. for more than two hours, people were frightened but knew little about what was going on inside. >> my boss came running in. and he said there was a guy running around with a gun and to stay put. >> it's scary, just knowing that someone

. slow traffic as you work your way south of montrose road to the split. in virginia, northbound i-95 slowing out of dale city trying to head north of the prince william parkway. no accidents, just volume. 66 slows at business 234. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >>> a speeding suv collides with an ambulance overnight. stacy cohan joins us live with the details. >> reporter: it was a very scary moment for the folk in the ambulance apparently. this happened just around midnight. they were just dispatched heading westbound on marlboro pike. and apparently, investigators were able to watch it all unfold on a dash cam that took video from the ambulance. the suburban was heading the wrong with a just speeding down when it was approaching the ambulance head on. the driver of the ambulance managed to swerve to the left and the suv, the suburban lipped the side of the ambulance, literally shaving half of that ambulance off and then it went another 40 yards, crashed into a brick wall, crashed into a utility pole and flipped up on its roof. all three members in that suv, three men

the virginia visitor's center and nutley street to the beltway. delays on braddock eastbound toward the beltway, also on 50 delays from fairfax circle to the beltway. a crash on 15 and that's tieing up the right side of the road. no problems in montgomery county. slow from the 410 out of riverdale into the northeast. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. >>> our top story this morning, a deadly crash in district heights overnight involving an suv and ambulance. two people were killed. two medics are being treated. stacy cohan has the details. >> reporter: this happened around midnight, this collision between an ambulance and the suv. they do have the suburban involved in the crash up on a flatbed tow truck and they remove it and reopen this roadway. to learn more about what happened, all of the fire investigators had to do was take a look at the dashboard camera in the ambulance and they were able to watch the accident happen. >> in the distance on the dash cam you can see a set of headlights approaching that appears to be in the same lane of travel but coming in the opposite direction
left with no food and water at a farm that was supposed to rescue them. the west virginia operation was shut down. 53 horses were seized. late today one of those animals died and 20 others were adopted. fox 5's sherri ly has the latest from martinsburg. >> reporter: when berkeley county sheriff's deputies found these horses, they were malnourished, so emaciated many had ribs and bones protruding. >> these horses are standing 24 hours a day in front of the bales of hay and just eating. >> reporter: eight horses were already dead or had to be put down. veterinarian christine bridges is working night and day trying to save the 53 others that survived. you think you can save them? >> we're trying. i'm hopeful. >> reporter: investigators seized l the horses from hidden meadows -- the horses from hidden meadows equine rescue, a martinsburg nonprofit that touted itself as a rescue home. some of these animals are former race horses like this one. two months ago it was brought to the farm. i can't show you the picture because it's evidence, but i've seen it. the horse was perfectly healthy.

in virginia are warning people who use onine dating sites this morning after they say a woman was sexually assaulted by a man she met online. according to the loudoun county sheriff's office, 34-year-old john evans met the 37-year-old victim on the site back in june. in july she went to his home where officials say he held her against her will, and sexually assaulted her. sheriff's investigators are now concerned this woman was not evans' first victim. >> a situation like this, it's the same as someone who's been scammed. they don't want the embarrassment of someone knowing they've been scammed so they don't say anything. that's how these perpetrators continue to get by with their crimes. they don't come forward. if anybody is familiar with this person we'd certainly like to hear from them. >> eharmony released a statement saying it's, quote, deeply saddened to hr about this terrible incident. the website also said it immediately closed evans' account and notified all of his matches not to communicate with him. >>> the company that hires metro access drivers is taking a closer look at how
